Beautiful, serene. A lovely walk. The Disabled Path is only a short section of the walk. The rest of it has a few steps and up/down hill sections. A treasure in our back yard.

A 15 minute walk to Big Tree Walk – a massive 1000 year old totata, which has an estimated life expentancy of 1500 to 2000 years. Who really knows, humans have not been around along enough in NZ, to really know for sure the exact date these trees can live too. Totarol is a compound extracted from the Totara tree. The French cosmetics and skin cream company L'Oreal tests around 1500 new ingredients every year. Apparently your "worth it", as Totarol is used by L'Oreal and it is more expensive than gold. Totarol is nature's super antioxidant, Totarol is 3 times stronger than Vitamin E, and a potent force to neutralise free radicals linked to skin ageing. Totarol is a compound from the heartwood of the Totara tree, and makes the wood extremely resistant to decay due to its antimicrobial and potent anti-oxidant activity and the suppose longevity of the trees.

These trees are really BIG! There are several walkways and tracks around in the peel forest... we took Allan's Track through wonderful nature and were most of the time alone with the birds.. we then took the fern walk down to the big tree walk... slept wonderful that night...

Very nice bush, trees are big but nothing like the Kauri stands on the north island. Birdlife is surprisingly varied and vocal!

I wouldn't call it a disabled path. Great bird songs in the area.

Beautiful easy walks, well maintained tracks in native bush. Bit of a journey to get there but close to the campground and work a quick visit

This is a short and delightful walk. To be in the presence of trees which are 1000 years old is special. Theres lots of other longer walks very near to add to this if you decide to explore further. There isnt too much explanation about the trees besides them - if you want to know more check out the DOC pamphlet on Peel Forest.

Highly accessible short 15 minute walk. Some stair sections and reasonably steep gradients, but very well formed graveled paths. Doable by small children and elderly with suitable assistance and support.
