Pohui Distillery is shockingly good! To think the kiwis are giving the Scotts a run for their money in their ability to distill Whisky with such a short history goes to show how innovative New Zealand is, Alex is an amazing distiller its the very reason why New Zealand has become a food and drink mecca of the new world. If your into Whisky and Spirits this is a must see and do in Auckland New Zealand.

I was warmly greeted by Alex the proprietor and his daughter Victoria who proudly showed me around the distillery and tasting room. They use fresh water from deep underground and gravity to run the brew from vat to barrel to maintain structure and viscosity. The entire operation now runs on solar power making it the first distillery in NZ to be self sufficient. The genuinely friendly proprietors deserve to be recognised as masters of top notch rum, gin, vodka and food grade alcohol used to make lemoncillo and paint for cakes.
