The worst experience I've ever had with any car hire company ..was told we would have to pay for any damage to the Ford ranger ( fare enough ) was also told we would also have to pay for any damage to windscreen if any stone chips etc...So we decided to video the whole car before we left..on re return was told there was a crack in wind screen ..so we played back video and there it was already cracked..showed the hire company and thought that was end of it ,but no they took a 1000 out of our account... So guys you will be receiving a letter from our lawyer

Was given a car that was overdue for service driving one way to Auckland. I was inform it's cheaper to service it in Auckland. Would have extended the rental but did not have confidence in the car provided.

We rented a car from September 26th through October 7th. The first warning should have been when they handed us the keys and told us to go look the car over but told us to ignore scratches to the left front as they "Already knew about it". We just got off 30hrs worth of flights for our honeymoon and I should have marked it all down but just wanted to get to our place and sleep. On the 7th, we returned the car in the same condition as we left it. On NOVEMBER 6th, we get a 244 USD charge to our card from thrifty. I called them and asked what this charge was for. They first told me it was "probably" for a windscreen. Probably? The manager then gets in the phone and says that it was for damage to the bottom of the bumper on the left front. Hmm, the same left front they told us not to note. He then proceeded to tell me that they sent me an email with pictures. Well I finally recieved the pictures TODAY and it's what looks like a small scuff on the left under the fog light. On our agreement they even marked that the car had fair wear and tear (you can see in the picture I've attached). I find it no coincidence that when us Americans showed up, they saw a perfect opportunity. They tell us not to note a specific damage because they knew about it and a month later I'm charged for damage. Seems fishy to me. Needless to say, Thrifty customer service will be getting plenty of calls from me as this is outrageous and I will not be swindled like that. And from other reviews I see on here, looks like I'm not the only one. Save the financial hurt, don't rent from them. -------------------------- ****2 months later after the owners replied to my original review above saying they would be contacting me to handle this. Still haven't gotten a call or email...all lies. Don't do it.****

Excellent after being ripped off by another company. So was very pleased with service. Asked for an upgrade and spoke to a very helpful young guy in Christchurch. Got to Wellington airport and there was absolutely no problem for a up grade. Thanku thrifty. Hope I don't get any hidden costs deducted from my credit card.

Remarkably they were able to add 30 litres of fuel to a vehicle that was three quarters full. I pleasantly asked them to check and got a narky reply. Clearly they know you have no recourse, save a bad review. Sorry to the great Thrifty team in Auckland.

One of my go too companies. Good vehicle for a small car. It would have been helpful if they had told us there was a major event that affected the main road to the depot the day we were returning the car and alternative routes suggested. We got to the airport just in time for boarding despite allowing plenty of travel time.
