A very peaceful small lake housing a small quiet & relaxed town. A great place for boating & fishing.

Clearer water than blue lake. 2 doc campsites with adjoining walking track with jumping cliffs off pa site with caves at water level. Boyes beach has new toilet/shower facilities. Other small areas to access water safely. Southern area of lake has walkway with unique composting toilets near picnic shelter. Lots of water birds. Active community making and maintaining track work. Swimming/boating/kayaking, paddleboarding/fishing mecca

Peaceful lake, nature reserve and lakeside holiday home village - well worth the extra few minutes drive from Rotorua! This a great spot for a very chilled out picnic (no food and beverage to buy here) swimming in the clear water or a stand up paddleboard as the water is often pretty flat generally being a sheltered spot. The recently revamped boat ramp is handy too. It can be busier in summer, but numbers are often in dozens rather than hundreds.
