It was a steep climb even before we got to entrance of walk! Where you park you then need to climb a hill, then some steps and walk a bit before entrance. When you get to top of grass hill from parking spot, turn left to find walkway sign. We went right and missed it. You can easily stop along way if needed. Once you get to natural rock steps on walk you are almost there...it is definitely worth the effort. Absolutely stunning views of vast ocean, surrounding islands, Pauanui & Tairua harbour. Just beautiful. Highly recommend.

Great walk up. A few steep rocky inclines, but nothing too extreme. I struggled coming down due to weak knees, but the view is totally worth it. Its truly breath taking and peaceful. Theres a chair up there to rest.

Follow the road signs to Mt Paku summit carpark. Then it's an easy 45 minute return walk. Final part of the climb is a little steep but any able bodied person can do it. Stunning veiws at the top. Get there early and have the place to yourself. Well worth the visit.

Stunning views. One of the best 360-degree views I've ever had.

Fantastic walk to the summit and your rewarded with a brilliant view! If you have ever been up to Mt Maunganui this walk is significantly easier and a lot shorter. I would recommend wearing shoes as there is a bit of rock climbing just before you reach the summit, nothing significant but it's a lot more straightforward with the right footwear. Make sure you select the carpark on google maps, dont drive to the summit as you will end up on a dead end residential street. Be sure to follow the signs showing "walkway" see my pics, this way you wont get lost.

A fantastic view to be had at the top. Well worth the climb. We walked from the Old Mill Cafe rather than drive, making use of the various walkway "shortcuts" on the way up. The climb up the peak itself is picturesque but a little muddy after rain. The last 50 metres is very steep and will give those who suffer from vertigo a run for their money. The summit has stunning 300 degree views of Tairua, the estuary and the ocean, however it's not an unobstructed 360 degree view. There are, surprisingly, no guard rails at the top, so supervision of children is key since there are rather precipitous drops on 3 sides. There is a car park not far from the base of the peak, and there is a drop off cul de sac right at the base. Sturdy walking shoes are a must, and care when taking photos at the summit. There are a number of interesting historical plaques with photos and text along the way to enhance the experience. The track is very narrow in places so passing groups going the opposite direction is common and requires courtesy and an amount of "stepping aside”. Note that the walk is very popular and the summit can get crowded.
