Nice day area by the river and free camping allowed in the higher carpark. There is a rope swing into the river but beware the current is strong and the river deep. Just down the road from Huka Falls and Taupo town is minutes away.

Freedom camping site with portaloos on site plue long drop toilets. Also a sink to wash your dishes. Such a beautiful location, just a short drive to Taupō city centre. Totally recommend.

Great spot to swing into the river or just soak ya feet after a long day of hikes. Spot to park up and camp for up to 4 nights. Hot springs 1 hour slow walk away or 8 minute drive. Bathrooms clean for the most part. Gets a bit messy when a bunch of local kids came thru but kids are gross anyways.

Great freedom camping spot. Two sets of toilets that are cleaned daily. Not too far from Taupō but you feel like you are away from the city. Great swimming in the river. Small inlets to avoid the current. Easier enough to get a spot if arriving mid afternoon or even evening- very peaceful during the day. Lots of security checks each day from different organisations so it feels very safe. A few short bush and road tracks to make the most of too.

If you are going there for camping plz be aware for this tent and table. Apparently this "public table" belongs to the owner of the tent just because she set the tent next to it. We were using the table this afternoon and she went nuts completely when she saw it. She shouted to us " get back to your country" and even tried to use knife to attack us. I thought it's a public camping spot for everyone traveling in Taupo, but actually it has been occupied from some dodgy people as long term accommodation.

Love it down here. Freedom camping area was semi full, looked all peaceful and tidy considering the many Van's down there. Walking down by the water was refreshing as it was a very hot evening.

BE AWARE there are some "long term guests " roaming around the freedom camping like if they own the place. We got shouted and pointed with a knife just for using one of the public table. We also got invited to go back to our country.

A good sheltered stop-off spot for a river swim before heading north to rotorua or Hamilton. Public toilets also here. No camping.
