Sit by the river under a tree. As long as you don't mind the traffic roaring by on SH2 above. Quite idyllic.

Nice way to spend lunch. Beautiful winters day spent having lunch at the Wairoa River Reserve. A couple of other people must also like it. There were about 6-8 other cars all parked up enjoying the gorgeous winter's day down by the river. It's great that there's a fiid cart parked down there to satisfy the hungry tums too. There appeared to be a few vehicles using the through road, rather than making a right turn out onto the main highway. I guess it's a safer option, but a couple tended to zoom through the reserve, or at least when we were there. Inconsiderate if kids were around, playing... Otherwise a nice place to stop, rest and refuel.

Nice place to stop for a coffee if you bring your own. Toilets are filthy.

Not a bad little spot to stop on the way north. Big Carpark with public toilets. Coffee cart is there sometimes with good coffee and pies. A little noisy with the traffic on the bridge
