A good place to discover some history
Interesting and we'll presented piece of history. Definitely worth a look.
Great little 10 minute walk around learning the history of mining in the area
Amazing scenery and great information about the old mining techniques
New Zealand does historical sites well. This site is well preserved, with well maintained paths and information boards. It's right on the side of the road so no excuse not to stop if you haven't been here before.
Cool little walk that you can do around what is left of the 'ruins'. There is a stack of information available to read on the signs as you walk around too. Its only 10 minutes drive from Greymouth so it is worth visiting as it does not take too much time at all. You can really get a feel for how hard it must have been for them back in the day.
I was impressive about how this accident site was set up, letting the visitors remember what happened, and remind people the priority of the working safety. 65 mine workers were killed here in one single explosion because safety wasn’t a priority.....
