The McKenzie District Council has to be highly commended on the freedom camp sites they make available to all self contained vehicles. We have enjoyed our stay in your area to chase the fish & R&R. We have had 7 days in your area now so lots of dollar's spent & met some great retailers. From Sue & Keith Ross & Lynley & Warwick Bryant we thank you. Cheers.

JUST BEAUTIFUL- favourite freedom camping spot from our trip.

Loved this little spot. Popular with other campers, so best to park earlier and stay the night to really enjoy the views. We were in a 7metre motorhome so we took some time to find a spot to be level, but the views are 100% worth it! Very relaxing!

Picturesque view of the snowy Mt Cook and pastel blue Lake Pukaki. Can get really cold, went late May and camped with an RV. Worth it! Pros: Not much people and you can find a spot just for you Cons: Not an electric campsite

Great spot for freedom camping. When the skies are clear, the views of the alps are breataking. We stayed here at 2 different nights at the exact spot! We initially drove to the other side of the Lake on Hayman Road and drove back here to the Pines. Public toilets here but one of those hole in the ground kinda thing. No rubbish bins or water taps. Loads of spots to camp overnight. Sunset from here was amazing too
