Before buying anything from this company. I would recommend you to watch Fair Go (7.5.2018) and also read the reviews. I see there is other companies selling telescopes my husband and I have had good service from Mighty Ape.

I purchased a Nikon D850 camera from Robert McTague of NZ Telescopes/Langwoods Photography back on the 7th of December, paid 4318 via bank transfer, and never received the item. The item was "lost by the couriers", and the tracking number lead to nothing. On the 28th of December, he claims to have received an insurance payout from NZI for the "lost" item and sent me screen shots. He must refund me, however the money still hasn't been received. He made the following excuses (without showing me any proof or evidence) between the 12th of January and 28th of January: 1) His sister died and needs to arrange the funeral. 2) He got cancer and needs to be treated at the hospital 3) He had a slip/fall and damaged his ribs 4) He suddenly had a stroke I have sent him my final warning, and notified that I will be reporting him to the police, and he will very likely be charged with obtains by deception and fraud. He has done this to multiple people. I will also be submitting a claim in the Disputes Tribunal if my funds are not received. I will also be forwarding his details onto the entire Insurance Council of NZ and NZI Insurance, to investigate for suspected insurance fraud. Edit: As of the 13th of April, I have won my Disputes Tribunal hearing against Robert Francis McTague of 28 Kiwi Drive, Timaru. He has been given a court order to pay up the full amount. However, he has not paid the money back even after the deadline. Timaru police and Fair Go are both investigating this case. Civil enforcement is coming his way. Edit: As of the 15th of June, Robert McTague has been arrested by Timaru Police, and will be charged and trialed in court for Obtaining by Deception.
We brought a Celestron Computerised Telescope from them in December 2017 for a great price. About 400 below market value! We paid in December 2017 but have yet to receive the telescope. We were not aware that it would 'NOT' be covered under warranty and that it was a 'parallel' import until after emailing Celestron directly and receiving their reply. This business is extremely deceiving. I have heard excuse after excuse as to why our telescope has not been supplied. I requested a refund early in Feb 2018, but as of today have yet to receive one. We are currently out of pocket for more than 7,500.
BEWARE!!! Ordered three new Celestron Telescopes from Robert McTage paying 17,000.00 NZD up front. Only one showed up after three months. McTage gave us excuses about the whereabouts of remaining two for months. Now trying to recover money through courts..
UPDATE 02/05/2018 Robert emailed me today to say the item had been damaged and had been returned to him by the courier. He asked for my bank account details and a refund has appeared in my account. Even so I will not shop through them again. WARNING WARNING WARNING I purchased a Celestron 8"SCT sew shield from NZ Telescopes 2 weeks ago for 77. A week after purchase nothing had turned up. Email after email was sent but no reply came through. Finally they told me a second d one had been sent. Surprise surprise nothing has turned up a week after that one either. They have not answered phone calls, they have not returned calls after I have left messages. They do not answer emails except to try and delay you further. They offered a refund but I am still to see anything come of it. I have been disgusted and horrified to read some of the other reviews on here where some good people are out of pocket by thousands of dollars. Mo ey paid and nothing to show for it. One thing I struggle to u understand is years ago I bought things from these guys without any issue. WHATS HAPPENED? Even though the sum of money I paid is mini.al compared to.others I have still been ripped off and a crime appears to have been committed against me. So as with others I will.be reporting this to the NZ Police and the Commerce Commision. At the very least in an attempt to stop more people losing g their money to this so called business.
this guy is a crook and a fraud. I have also been ripped off by him, DONT BUY FROM ROBERT (or MIKE) MCTEGUE, he sold me a Celestron CPC 1100 which plainly doesn't exist, like others here, I have had every excuse under the sun, he wont anser my calls or emails or texts. I have lodged a complaint with the NZ Police.
FRAUD WARNING Don’t buy a telescope or anything from Robert McTague at NZ TELESCOPE’s also known as KIWI OBSERVATORY both based in TIMARU .Also trading under Photography Timaru Purchased a 12 inch LX 90 Meade Telescope in mid October 2017. Still no scope (have attempted on a number of occasions to pick up scope). Ongoing continuous excuses: not home this weekend TXT from Robert “On way home just in mobile range won't be in Timaru tomorrow we helping a friend move home very sorry” have family coming around tonight I’m behind in work TXT from Robert 26/03/18 “My wife and I off to Oamaru my son been in car accident he in Hospital” (this conveniently happened to be one of the days I was going down to pick up the scope) TXT from Robert 26/03/18 “Son ok but requires surgery neck issue from whiplash car is a right off chassis damage” TXT From Robert 27/03/18 “Still in Dunedin just got my ph charged our son in surgery at the moment” This was the last time I ever heard from him. I sent Robert on 11/04/18: Hi Robert As of the 11/04/18, there is still no response from you to my emails or TXT’s, nor any money has been transferred into my account. After obtaining legal advice as of today 11/04/18, if the total sum of 4,295.00 has not been paid in full to my account by the 15/04/18, the following will happen … A complaint will be lodged with the TIMARU POLICE on the grounds of FRAUD. Furthermore, as of 17/04/18, that complaint has been lodged with the NZ POLICE at CHCH Central on the Grounds of FRAUD I see that a number of people have been deceived and have encountered the same stressful situation and have become a victim of FRAUD . PLEASE put a complaint into the police on the grounds of FRAUD, ASAP.
