For a 3 star motel this is awesome. Friendly owners. Tidy recently renovated rooms and the private hot pools make it an easy choice for somewhere to stay when doing the tongariro crossing. The soak in the hot pool after a 19k hike is the best.

We loved our stay here in our newly renovated cabin. Very clean and tidy. Yet still retains character of old fashioned kiwi motel that we grew up with. Peaceful with only 8 cabins. The private thermal pools are great: especially the one with views out over the fields. Very friendly helpful staff. Will be coming back!
It's not fancy but the best place to relax and hide out from the cityscape. I visited this place 3 times. Owners are good. Service is good. On premises hot pools are convenient.

Have just settled into a good sized unit. Well stocked with everything needed. Hot pools to lool forward to.
Renovated units, but still have old fashioned louvre windows. Let the noise and bugs through even when closed. Even though there was mesh on outside of louvres, hundreds of midges came in and crawled around ceiling and lights. Had the odd one crawling on me aggie in bed. At least they weren't sandflies. Not acceptable for a motel room, and a slightly dearer than average price too. If it wasn't for the insects it would have been acceptable. No flyspray in the units to combat them.
Always love this motel, yes it is rustic but reasonably clean with good beds and excellent pure, clean natural thermal water pools. The pools are basic concrete built a long time ago but the water is pure, has to be cooled as it comes out of the motels own thermal ground outlets, excellent mineral quality. As I said, quite basic but very real value for money. Plus there is a very good quality restaurant at the south western corner of Lake Taupo within a couple of kilometers, we've been coming to this motel for a long time and always come back, the units are old but recently updated, painting and refitted kitchens and bathrooms. It is also very close to lots of great walks, in particular around Lake Rotoponamu which is a comfortable 2 hour walk round the lake in some of the central's most spectacular native untouched forest.
