Southern Cross is the best restaurant in Wellington. They have an amazing selection of food that are very flavorsome, they have great service with nice, kind and chatty staff, the building is big with lots of sections, like private areas for party's, or a nice outside area that is nicely decorated, they have lots. And you can never get bored at Southern Cross, they have a pool table, rocks outside to jump over, some nice old-fashioned swings, its amazing. Whats best is the food, if you order meat you can have 2 choices, either order it already cooked, or order it to cook yourself! With boiling rock, its very creative how they've done it and they have so much mouth watering food that its just amazing! I've been going to Southern Cross for years now and if anyone wanted my ideas on where to go for a dinner party, my first recommendation would be Southern Cross. Its a GREAT place for a family dinner/outing or just for weddings or really anything. Overall Southern Cross is my number 1 recommendation for anyone out there looking for a nice restaurant. 10/10

We booked a function for about 20 people. When we booked, they assured us there were outdoor heaters and a fireplace. We got there and apparently they didn’t have any wood for the fireplace so the entire function was spent freezing. If you’re going to advertise the availability of a fireplace then please make sure it’s available, we wouldn’t have booked if we’d known there was almost no heating for the outdoor space. It was nice that blankets were provided but that doesn’t make up for the fact the fireplace, which we were told would be on, wasn’t.

Walked in as a table of 6 at around 7pm on a Friday night. The place was pumping but they quickly found us a table. Burger was awesome, although the Garlic Bread entree came out at the same time as the mains. 2 for 1 cocktails were great, and wicked selection of craft beers. Very noisy though!

Great vibe. It's such a big space there is usually a seat available except when really busy. Food and drink is good and staff are friendly and helpful.

We had great memories of the Southern Cross and were looking forward to brunch with our daughter and her partner on Sunday 7th March. Unfortunately what unfolded became one of the worst dining experiences made so by your Duty Manager, Sam. We ordered our meals which included two of the Cured Salmon brunch dishes. When the meals arrived I queried the dish with the waiter to explain this was not a Salmon dish but poached eggs on toast with some thin rolled up strips of salmon on the side. The menu says it’s cured salmon then I would expect that salmon is the main element, just like with steak, venison, lamb or chicken meals. I said I was happy to pay for poached eggs dish as this is not a salmon dish. About a minute later a man came over to our table, stood over us and in loud aggressive voice said I hear you have a problem with the portion size. I indicated the issue is that this was not a salmon dish but poached eggs on toast. He continued to speak very aggressively at me, I asked him who he was, and it was your duty manager, Sam. Sam wasn’t listening, I felt like he was taking things personally, I asked him to stop being so aggressive and he said he wasn’t. He also implied we were trying to get out of paying for the meal ordered. This is not a money issue, we continue to spend hundreds on meals supporting local establishments. Your duty manager Sam walked way without resolving a thing. At no time did Sam try to understand my concerns but I got the distinct impression he was trying to bully me, he was obnoxious, he was aggressive, took things very personally, his attitude was wholly appalling and certainly does not have the capability to manage any establishment interacting with customers and managing complaints. Worst experience we have had in decades of dining and if I could give 0 stars I would.

I went there this morning with two kids, it was great ! The smoothies & fries were good. Every second saturday of each month, they have a kid show. It was really funny, we loved it !

Popped in for the live music and decided to eat here. There were no tables available but we could sit in bar booth. Food was unexpectedly good and well priced! Good service even though there was a wait on drinks- they were busy. Great live music, fun dancing, friendly crowd. Would go again
