The Pancake Rocks are one of the Must See attractions of New Zealand! Make sure that you visit at high tide as the blow holes will be at their most impressive at that point! A few little shops and cafes to explore nearby too. If you like birdwatching you will see lots on the rocks!

Punakaiki pancake rocks is a cool time to visit for high tide, when the blowholes will be operating most forcefully and a strong gale force wind helps too.

Very cool to see the rocks here. You will definitely see why they are called pancake rocks! The blowholes weren't too active when we were here. It also wasn't too busy. There is a parking lot near the cafe you can park at and walk across the road to get to the rocks and blowholes.

What a great Visitors Centre. I was even lent some essential piece of hiking gear before our Paparoa tramp. It was pouring and I had not brought gaiters. I could not buy any on Sunday afternoon in either Greymouth nor Punakaiki. But a very kind employee of this Visitor Centre lent me her own pair. I really appreciate her help and generosity. We also enjoyed talking to this lovely person about the track and amenities. This Track and all its support people are such an asset to the gorgeous West Coast. We'll be back :)

Beautiful beautiful place, highly recommended! One star is for the gift shop cross the road. The staff/ owner there is not welcoming international tourist. He said NZ is better without them. International tourist bring him business, he is not grateful for it, also bad mouthing about them. Remember we are all international tourist in other countries!

Absolutely worth a stop and short walk around. The pancake rocks and the blowholes are impressive as are the views of the coastline and birdlife. A beautifully maintained tourist attraction. Paths are wide and very well maintained and are mostly hard surfaced. All points of interest are well signposted with interesting information about the item you are looking at. Walkways are mostly accessible by wheelchair with just a few sections that cannot be accessed.

A great place to stop and stretch the legs. The walk easy pretty easy with a 20 round trip time but you will probably spend an extra 20 min taking pictures and watching the blow hole. Don’t forget to look up the high tide schedule as this is the best time to view the blow hole.
