Good for kids
We went horse back riding with these guys a few years ago. What an adventure! Jumping up mountain sides to some of the most beautiful sights in the bay. Only to meet more beautiful horses at the top. My wife used her cutting skills while helping round up a few unwilling calves. Then, a thunder storm, which the horses managed cool, calm, & collectively. Very highly recommend Nikau horse back riding, quite an adventure.

Our whanau of 4 headed to Nikau Valley horse treks with John (owner) which we always do every year while on holiday at Awakeri Hot Springs. Very quiet natured horses as John has a holistic way with them, no bits in the horses mouths! Our blind/autistic daughter loves trekking our 16yr old daughter who isn't so horsey totally enjoys herself! If you're in the Awakeri/Whakatane area & looking for an activity for yourself or the children give Nikau Valley horse treks a go you won't be disappointed you get to learn alot in such a short time as John is an extremely experienced horseman! Thankyou John we will be back! Yearly Whanau Summer Horse Trek January 2021 Once again our family of 5 experienced another amazing Horse Trek with John (owner). As always excellent friendly professional service! My blind/autistic daughter always loves her yearly trek we also had my 17yr old daughter & boyfriend who both aren't horse keen but with tips & advice from John they were left to their own devices & once they completed the trek they both admitted they would do it all again without hesitation! Highly recommend giving Nikau Valley Horse Treks a call wether you are horse keen or want a family or couples activity to do while in the Awakeri/Whakatane area. Give it a go you won't regret it!
We went for a ride here yesterday for my mother-in-law who was 80 and a few of her grandchildren we would highly recommend it he was absolutely incredible the horses were amazing and my mother-in-law came back absolutely buzzing and wants to make it an annual thing thank you so much definitely recommend.
John was great and very patient! A few helpful tips and I was feeling much more confident on my horse by the end of the trek. Great views with some history thrown in. Thank you John!
A wonderful and unique experience. John was a great guide and put a lot of effort into making it relaxed and enjoyable. Also learned a lot from him, and loved that all his horses were ridden bitless

My husband's parents gave us a trek as a Christmas gift. Me, my husband and our 5 and a half years old daughter had the most amazing experience today! She was scared, but John, by the end of the trek "uncle John", was so amazing in building her confidence! I'm so grateful to him. We will definitely come back! Thank you!
