In 2010 we identified an issue in the building industry costing building companies significant amounts of time and money. When employers advertise to hire builders they get a huge response from job hunters who clearly have not read the requirements. They then need to sift and filter large numbers of CVs and applications. We wondered if there was an alternative to current methods of hiring builders and came up with the idea of JobJam. The idea was simple: JobJam held an online database of job hunters looking for work in the building industry. An employer searched the database using criteria specific to the role they were trying to fill. They received a list of suitable job hunters and were free to make contact with them at their discretion.. We spoke to over 150 building companies who used DIY methods for recruitment and together established that if they added up the time and money spent the process would cost them anywhere between $500 and early $000’s per hire. Almost all of them thought that was an unreasonable outlay. JobJam’s model offered them the ability to filter job hunters before publicising their role.
