Awesome place in Auckland for a family retreat
Fantastic location
A quiet and peaceful escape close to the city. Excellent for small groups looking to get away for a few nights. Gets awarded my five stars for the lovely setting, and the sense of being away from it all. Facilities are reasonably good, clean and well-maintained. Kitchen has no sharp knives, remember to bring your own. The bunk bed mattresses are a bit tired, and not very comfy. Doubling up if you have spares is OK, but I recommend bring a small self-inflating mattress for a bit more comfort. There is access down to the beach via a small bush-walk pathway on the northern end of the lawn.
Beautiful peaceful lodge with access to the water and a 20 min drive to Whatipu Beach for awesome beach walks. Settlers Museum just down the road. Huia Store with great cafe 2 kms away. Could be so much improved by better mattresses all through. Choose to spend the second night in my car! Rating reflects this as sleep is so important to me!
