Struggle with new drivers traveling way to slow, 35 to 40 k's and holding up traffic.

Took two bus trips to get to our venue thanks to a rude bus driver. Perhaps their drivers need better training to be responsible to their passengers. Still had a lovely day though

NO ACCESSIBLE WAIHEKE ISLAND BUSES I saw on the AT (Auckland Transport) website that …....”to confirm wheelchair access for a specific trip”..... to …..”ring Waiheke Island Buses on 09 372 8823”... So, I rang this number and spoke to a woman who very pleasantly asked me if I could.....”walk up the steps (???) and fold my wheelchair”...., to which I told her I was in a wheelchair???, an electric wheelchair. I was then told they had no accessible buses for wheelchair users. I was certainly angry at this injustice. NZ is a long way off of providing equal access to transport. I have had property on Waiheke since 1994 and I know they have a disproportionate number of elderly and disabled people to the general Auckland population. I asked the woman if Waiheke Island Buses bought their own buses or if they got all their buses from Auckland Transport. The reply was Auckland Transport supply all their buses. I have heard many Waiheke islanders suggest that Auckland Transport offload all their old buses onto Waiheke Island but it is the first time I have tried to catch the bus on Waiheke, so first experience at having to think about that issue myself. I often catch buses to many different parts of Auckland and can always go to a bus stop and have an accessible bus pull up. No accessible buses on Waiheke Island would suggest why, that new buses into Auckland go into bus companies fleet and Waiheke Island buses get the old ones, all the inaccessible ones. This is not right; it is not equal access and certainly excludes wheelchair users being able to use public transport on Waiheke Island. February 2020 Just to update. The wonderful owner of Waiheke Bus Company kept his word last summer and are wheelchair accessible buses now.
