Great martial art to practice in a relaxed, community-oriented environment. Ideal place to learn true martial art fundamentals for self-defense, fighting, and for personal development. Joining after many, many years experience in another martial art, it has been life changing. Highly recommend.

I joined Chans with my son to give him skills to handle aggression he faced at school. I chose Chans as it is a style that emphasises working harmoniously with your body, unlike some other disciplines that teach styles that lead to injury. My son has autism. Chans has provided a safe family friendly space for him to grow as a person as well as martial arts skills. Chans teaches lessons that are applicable to self defence. Two weeks after starting I was attacked and grappled by an intruder at work. I was able to confidently disengage and make space to deal with him. I have been training alongside my son for 18 months. Since then I have been in other similar situations of physical threat. Chans has provided a skillset that have allowed me to deal with these situations in a confident and safe manner. Previously the skills I had would have required me to hurt people. Now i have options. Chans is not a combat academy. It emphasises whole life growth and the art in martial art. But don't be fooled . The skills are effective. I now have three children and myself training. I have a disability from an accident that required me to spend a year learning to walk. Chans has encouraged me to go further than anyone thought I would be able to physically while respecting and being considerate of my limitations. I am in better condition in my 50s than when I played competitive national sport in my 20s. I am more flexible and relaxed. My balance is better. I whole heartedly endorse Chans as a family friendly, safe and respectful place for young and old, male and female to learn a physical martial art. Thank you Master Chan for teaching old school life lessons about humility, integrity and honour...as well as sharing your style.

I have been training under Master Chan for the past 30 years. I love every minute of my training. Having started at the age of 13 it taught me discipline and gave me a great deal of confidence which really helped me through my life. On top of all this i have learnt a great skill which will protect me should i find myself in a life threatening situation.

It's good but don't get Confused, I did chans martial arts for years as a young kid from 9 to 13 I attented and while it is good for things such as flexibility or social skills, maybe good fitness for the elderly? The classes really aren't very intense physically and the self defense aspect is almost zero, you won't go meeting any athletes or any pro fighters at all There's no sparring or heavy bags, no qualified fighters or coaches no weights or really any equipment at all in fact most of the classes are ran out of school halls or empty rooms not an actual gym. You won't see them at local kickboxing events for a reason. It's not a practical self defense or even a sport and it isn't for anyone with high standards of achievement, if you are looking to compete in combat sports, learn self defence or get some actual physical and fitness based gains then I suggest joining a kickboxing, boxing, bjj or mma gym where they will have qualified trainers and conditioning coaches to help you and also actual equipment such as running machines, heavy bags and weights you can use they will also help you with diet etc witch is a fundemental and very important part of fitness and exsersize and it will be around the same price.

I trained under Grand Master Chan from 1991 through to 2006. I had previous experience with combat sports but Grand Master Chan educated me on what true martial arts is and the what real "training" is. Not only were a lot of these lessons valuable for martial arts, but they also enabled me to transition from an unskilled factory worker to a professional who skills are used around the world. The sole reason why I had to cease training there was due to moving halfway around the world. Since then I have been competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Pan American and World Masters level. Although the style is completely different from what I had learnt here many of the very valuable lessons have been transferable. The "how to train", "harder and faster are of no use without skill", what the true warrior spirit is. I will always be in debt to Grand Master Chan.
