I've been hesitant to post a review but after recently reading "Let my people go surfing", the book about the ethics and values behind the well known brand, Patagonia, I thought it was time I write a review about my short experience with bushbuck. My partner bought himself and me puffer jackets almost 3 years ago - they were the early model, so have since been upgraded but I believe that my concerns are still valid. I really liked the jacket, it had a tough canvas like outer, good pockets and kept me very warm. I kept it as a semi tidy jacket for a while before starting to wear it on farm - I'd worn it 4-5 days a week for part of the day for no longer than 2 months before the zip stopped working. I was able to temporarily fix the zip by giving it a squeeze with some pliers before it conked out for good only a few weeks later. I chucked it in a cupboard and forgot about it until 8 or so months later when I thought I better get in touch with Bushbuck to see if this issue could be sorted out (knowing full well that I was out of it's 1 year warranty.) I heard back from Bushbuck to say it would be about 90 for a replacement zip. I'd be happy to pay that if I knew the zip was going to be of better quality than the first but I very much doubt it would be. If Bushbuck is hoping to make tough, hard wearing clothes with a good reputation - testing out their gear extensively and offering lifetime guarantees would be a great place to start. Especially considering that fast fashion is a huge problem in today's world - surely combatting that with quality products would be top of the priority list. I was excited about this kiwi business but wouldn't buy another product unless I thought the quality of products had changed.

I cannot fault Bushbuck. My gear gets so many comments about how well it has performed. In the rough seas around the Chatham Islands or in -7C fishing trips, the Defender gear has been great. I have now purchased the tent, footprint, cooker and sleeping mat. I missed the deal by a few days and they were able to look after me and actually gave me a better deal than expected! Then they organised it to be shipped to my address overnight so that I can take my son on a fishing trip this weekend. 1:30pm original email, 2pm items reserved, Paid and on 5pm overnight courier... And they were clear and fast to respond. Cannot fault their amazing service. Lizzie and Tim are amazing and stand by their gear.

Really good gear! And the back up service is second to none! I had a small issue with my new sleeping mat bed they sent me replacement and made sure they got it to me overnight in time to make my heli flight in for the roar!
