We had a wonderful guide who knows a loooot about the town :D The ride is nice to do, it allows you to discover the city without walking. The full tour is about 50 minutes.

Cathedral square is a must see and a great place to observe the revitalisation of Christchurch. Seeing the old trams in action is a special experience. We took the tram ride from here which lasted 45 minutes and covered a descent part of the city centre. Easy to recommend as part of a visit to the Garden City.

The tram ride through the city centre is a great way to learn about the city and see the sights as the conductor gives a running commentary. There are so many changes in the city, having lost approximately 70% of their buildings in total, 80% of which were heritage buildings. The city has dealt with the calamity in an inspiring way, having created the re:START mall and planning a better city and rebuilding stronger and safer buildings so quickly. There are still quite a few interesting heritage buildings that survived because they were earthquake strengthened before 2010 and there are at least 2 buildings that were severely damaged, yet are still untouched since the earthquake (the old i-Site building was under insured, and it has taken 7 years to decide what they wanted to do with the cathedral - which they have now decided to restore, but have not begun work). So a very interesting view into the city. Three tram stops from here, stop 15 I think is the Quake Museum, which will give you more insight. The tram actually starts from cathedral square, but you can buy a ticket from the conductor at any stop, which costs 25, allows you to hop on and hop off all day and runs every 15 minutes until 5pm after which I think there are 3 more trams passing by this particular stop at 17:30, 18:10 and 18:40, but these times are approximate.
