Dovetail Restorations have restored a number of items for us and have done a terrific job on all of them. I've been amazed and impressed by the quality of every piece and I can recommend them wholeheartedly. It has been a pleasure to deal with them, they got things done in good time, and nothing was ever too much trouble for them. Their prices were reasonable considering the amount of work that was needed and the quality of the end result. They restored our rimu dining table which was in very poor condition. It was about 40 years old and had sun damage, discolouration, the old varnish was starting to break down, and there were a lot of scratches, dents and water damage. It now looks perfect. It would have taken a lot of painstaking and skilled work to restore and resurface it. This enabled me to restore it, which I preferred to selling it and buying a new one. Dovetail gave us advice about looking after it too. They did a lovely job on our rimu dining chairs, re-gluing those that needed it, dealing with al the scratches and dings, and then resurfacing them. All the chairs now look as if they'd just come off the showroom floor. Dovetail also restored a mahogany coffee table which I first saw in the early 70’s and inherited nearly 20 years ago. With the years and family visits including grandchildren the colour had faded on top a lot and it had acquired milky patches from heat / liquid damage. After restoration the table looks astonishingly good. They did an amazing job too on my 100 year old Art Nouveau vase painted by my great-aunt. It had been broken and poorly mended earlier, but now looks really beautiful, looks great on display, and looks like it was never broken. I feel now when the time comes I'll be able to hand it on to the next generation. Thanks for everything Dovetail!

I have no hesitations in recommending this company, who stained a brand new oak table of ours from a natural wood colour to black. Dovetail refurbished and restore my great-grandfather's "office" desk - he was a manager of an estate in the North of Scotland and I was told this was his working desk. It was built in the 1860s/70s and by the time I took it into Dovetail was very much showing its age - my father had used it as his home desk for 20 or 30 years as well! When I called in to see them with some photos Adam gave me a provisional estimate and then followed this up by email. Despite a few things emerging along the way they held to their estimate and produced an excellent result. We opted for a "sympathetic" restoration - fix the broken or missing bits, repair cracked and missing veneer and the leather insert, fresh drawer rails and the like then refurbish the exterior. Adam kept in touch and let me know what was happening along the way. I'm delighted and found them a great firm to deal with, the first time I've ventured into this sort of thing so I wasn't sure what to expect. I am now using it as my home office desk and hopefully it should also see my children out!

This is the second time we have used dovetail Restorations Ltd. Workmanship excellent we had six dinning room chairs reupholstered damage wood work repaired and polished. chairs are like brand new. Highly recommended.
