Good food, a bit pricey though. Part of the Elliot Stables. Just remember to check your table number before you place your order; it's on the metal plate bolted on the middle of your table. The paella is good, though the sangria is for a glass, not a pitcher.

this is Spanish food at its best. It is not Mexican. we had tapas one night and went back for paella for lunch the next day. wonderful staff. when we travel we walk and we eat. I highly recommend el faro!!

Had a selection of tapas with a group. Every one of them was pretty good. Decent value too considering the location.

My husband and I visited a couple weeks back. It's in Elliot Stables so we nearly passed the entrance thinking it was another restaurant. The service was fantastic, my water was always full and she checked on us regularly to see how things were shaping up. We really enjoyed the slow roasted pork and the sangria was great! My husband was a big fan of the meatballs. I was a little sad not to see paella or tortilla de patata on the menu but it's a tapas restaurant so it's not surprising. I only wish it was open later. Great place!

Mexican in New Zealand could be so much more. Apart from one place in Auckland (not this one), I'm always gutted when the stodgy street food style fare comes to the table. El Faro! Come on! Quesadillas are easy to make special even if they're a toasted sandwich I can make at home! Pile on fresh, authentic salsa with lime and coriander highlights. Give non meat eaters something more than just "fresh" corn as an option (PS vegetarian does not thick. It's not from a corn cob out back). The best thing about this place is the cool hidden away venue. But if you're into food... Eat before you come here. Sorry El Faro, I've been more than once and both times bummed out. It wouldn't take much for you to take the Auckland CBD mexican audience. You've got the venue, so where's the passion for the food?

Horrible food and very bad attitude! The dish is very small for 17. If you're a big man, it's probably smaller than your fist, haha, what a rip off. If the food is good, I wouldn't say a word. But it's so not worth it at all. The pork is burned or not fully cooked, veges have a weird smell, I doubt if they wash them. The worst thing is that some of the chicken has gone bad. It's so disgusting and I went back to ask them. They wouldn’t provide any refund. The guy is so rude and he even threaten to hurt me, he is very good at insulting people and offending customers. Oh there was another thing, when I was trying to get some plates so I can share with my friends (before I found how bad is it), they said can only provide me one. Seriously? This is the first restaurant that I know is refusing to provide customers extra plates. I don’t even know why they are still open. It was a nightmare and I would never ever go back there again.

Excellent tapas at a reasonable price. Staff friendly.
