Lake Hauroko is the deepest lake in NZ. You drive in over 20km of unsealed road to a carpark in beech forest, on the edge of the lake. Picturesque views of the ranges surrounding the lake and bushwalks along the shores. Public toilet facility.

Very nice lake. The problem is, 20km of unsealed road, park the car, there is even a toilet... But once taken your nice pic and had a walk around, there is really not much more here...
Such a beautiful area. One of the least used lakes in the country.
I loved it myself, I'm a hunter and fresh to the area so when I was there the sandflies were a problem for me, it really needed to be a little colder for my liking. But overall a beautiful place.
