Short walk to a roche moutonnée, in glaciology, a roche moutonnée is a rock formation created by the passing of a glacier. The passage of glacial ice over underlying bedrock often results in asymmetric erosional formation. If you come here you might see a very rare bird. The white heron New Zealand population is small (150-200 birds).

Well worth a look even if you don’t care about lord of the rings.
So cool to be in Edoras! The scenery is out of this world! The hike is moderate and a great experience!
The journey to middle earth. Beautiful landscape!! The lord of the ring tow tower
A bit out of the way and have to drive on an unsealed road for a bit but it is worth the views and location.
Fantastic views even of a rainy day, the road in was pretty fun too
First time I came here was with a tour, that was already amazing and even had props from the LOTR movie. We did not have as lot of time there. I drove myself this time (make sure you have a car that's allowed on gravel roads because that road is very long), I made some more stops on the way there and took a lot of time while there. For the biggest part of the day I was alone... the area is huge, immense... so beautiful. And I am also a LOTR fan so that made it extra special..., almost surreal. But really, even if your not a fan of the movie, it's soooooo worth it to go to, walk around, and just stand still and take it al in (and it's free!!!!)
Great for anyone, lord of the rings fan? Yes. Want beautiful scenery? Yes. Like to walk in the wild back country? Yes? Like wind? Yes. Absolutely stunning place!
