I somehow expected it to be bigger, being called a monument and all that. Plus it was hard to find, the Google maps marker is roughly 30m off.

Great cat statue. Super solid.

Situated in New Zealand’s second largest burial ground near the Standen Street exit, this life-sized feline bronze statue is a tribute to Mrs Chippy, the tiger-striped tabby who sailed on board the Endurance with Earnest Shackleton on his Imperial Trans-Antartic Expedition in 1914. The sculpture sits at the feet of his owners grave, Harry ‘Chippy’ McNish, who was the ship’s carpenter. A special, peaceful place where one can pay tribute, and enjoy the native birdsong in the surrounding bush. Photo credit: May B.
