My sons gold fish that we had had for just under 5 years died the night before. He was really upset so the following day we drove to Animates Rotorua to get another fish as that is our go to pet shop. When we got there we had a look around then was approached by a staff member for assistance. We were told bluntly that the conditions we kept our previous fish in were no good and cruel. We were told a gold fish needs 50 litres of water per fish (look at your own tanks Animates) and that they were highly intelligent and they would refuse to sell us 1 fish as they are sociable. So basically we had to buy a hundred litre plus tank, an air system and all the stuff that goes with it before we could buy our fish (2). We were made to think we were horrible people. My son got very upset and was crying when we got to the car. We went down the road to another pet shop. We showed the guy there the tank we have as they sell the same ones. He said it was perfect and could happily accommodate 3 fish. So we bought 3 fish and some tank cleaners. We also got supplies for our 3 dogs and 2 cats. Just under 300 in total. We will never step foot in Animates again if this is how they work, which we think is to get more sales.
Love the animal care and advice. My dog peed on the floor ,I apologised and they laughed and said it happens all the time and she got the mop out and cleaned it up. They are animal lovers and happy to give good advice
I really appreciate the service in the shop, the staff are warm and friendly. It's great being able to bathe my large dog there too, what a relief!! Excellent range of products as well.
Friendly staff. Dog shower area should be attended to by staff after each wash to ensure its in good nick for the next customer and their dog.
