Extremely bad service. In store and over the phone, ESPECIALLY by lady on the counter named Puti. Although the others aren’t much better. Worst customer service I have ever received, very in professional and straight out rude. I have worked in customer service my whole life so I know exactly how you shouldn’t speak to customers (how they do) disgusted is an understatement. Looking at all the other reviews this place definitely has a lot of issues, and clearly people only use them because they have no other option. Maybe look at getting friendlier staff.

Came here only because the AA across town had cars lining up to the road. VTNZ is a little bit more expensive than other places around, and having to pay more I would expect better facilities.... unfortunately VTNZ Rotroua does not provide better facilities. The waiting room was pretty depressing and uncomfortable. There was a coffee machine somewhere as I saw other customers with them but I wasn't offered one. In addition there is a surcharge to pay with credit card. The lady at the counter was very friendly, and the mechanic Brian was very friendly. Despite the friendly staff, the credit card surcharge, the price and the waiting room is why I have rated so low today. I would haply re-review this place but only if the more affordable AA across town is not available.
Took our car for WOF and it failed because of worn bush in Suspension Arm which they marked with spray paint. Was cheaper to replace complete Arm rather than just the bush..only to find out they'd marked both sides (not noted on WOF form) so 400 later for parts etc. Fortunately we have an awesome mechanic and he showed us that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the original parts at all but because they had marked both we had to replace them. We have the arms/bushes that we replaced and we have taken them to 3 independent mechanics who say the same thing so when I go back for the recheck, I'm going to ask the 2 guys who did the first check to show me what they failed the bushes on. That's 400 we didn't have to spend..not happy. I guess the fail/pass percentages weren't high enough for our car so they had to find something but didn't expect a woman to call them out.
Bad, bad, bad!!! This company has issues. My son went to do his driver's test. They are the sole government contractor doing driver testing. That alone is wrong as it creates market dominance. Covid has created a massive backlog of testing that has people waiting months for a test. The next problem is that the Chinese car my son owns is manufactured with a 10% over-read on the speedometer. This means that at 50kph true speed he was "speeding" as the speedometer said 55kph. The testing officer was too inexperienced to be able to reconcile what she saw on the speedometer with what she saw in real time by looking outside the car - which is how I discovered the issue in the 1st place - confirmed with a GPS. He failed the test. When I pointed this out to the manager he was unrepentant and plain rude. I suppose when you hold the only government contract you can treat customers any way you want! The fix: Have more than one government contractor performing driver testing and do speed checks using a GPS. We have that technology on our mobile phones- it's not hard. You have to use this crowd to do your driver test (for now), but you don't have to get your WOF through them. Use somebody else because they are really expensive.
Just don't bother going here. Brought my vehicle in and failed my warrant on "left front suspension play." Would've been nice to get something a little more specific to work with. Took it to my mechanic and he said nothing was wrong so went for a recheck and it passed. Funny that. The inspectors don't care for your belongings either. As I waited in the queue I watched them unceremoniously throw things in and out of boots and slam doors with excessive force. I myself had my driver side seat adjustment knob snapped off (see attached picture). I'm not usually one to write reviews, but my advice: stay away, spend your 63 elsewhere. Won't be back.
Very rude in their dealing with me from the get go. Did not listen to what I had to say at all, even told me I am liar when I said the last evaluation with the same vehicle setting past the test. I have prove it was done at their place.
The driving examiner Jackie was Uber supportive , she really made the test more comfortable for me.
I am never very negative about my reviews. I am going to make an exception in this case. Patronize them at your own peril. Two weeks ago we explained we had a de-reg. motorbike needing a V.I.N etc. We were told 2 week delay and then bring it in and leave it 2 days with them. When we came to pick it up. .... Pulled up to a disgruntled and the staff abusing him including swearing. The same staff member was negative and rude to us. Service they said they could provide couldn't actually be supplied. If we had been told accurate info in the beginning by the counter staff instead of passing the buck blaming new staff members, we could have saved a lot of angst. We travelled 2 hours for this treatment, now having to jump more hoops and go back again. I have dealt with rude retail behaviour in the past, but none so blatant as today. so obviously we are not alone in bad treatment by them. We should've listened to the warnings by ther people, one person living in Rotorua opting to go out of town for all his vehicles.
