Amazing place to walk, hike or bike with all only native animals and plants. The 50km predator fence keeps out all invasive animals, am amazed not more people know about or go to this place.

Nice place to go for a walk along a well formed trail. The trail over the mountain is free to enter. We walked about 1 hour in and 1 hour back along the same track. Natural sanctuary for native birds due to pest proof fence perimeter. Saw and heard different and rarer birds. Option to pay to go into the southern enclosure - we didn't, but I think access is also free through another gate owned by private landowners who gave free public access (there are some signs). Visitor centre small with helpful staff. Compost toilets free and clean.

We had a really nice morning doing part of the hike over the mountain. We didn't realise there was another area we could have investigated. You have to pay to enter but it looked interesting. The mountain trail was full of birdlife. We saw a couple of Kaka. We walked for about 50 minutes and it was all uphill. It's a shame you can't see the countryside through the trail. We thought it would be nice if they cut some holes so you could see where you were.
