Absolutely magical!!! The double security gate is a neat entrance to experience and shows how serious this reserve is about keeping unwanted pests out! There are real kiwi roaming the bushes here at night & during the day many lovely native birds around. The lake is picturesque and invitingly warm to swim in. Well worth the detour of the main drive.

Beautiful place with a wonderful concept of being a predator free area. Wish there were more of these around the country! Really appreciated being able to camp overnight too - & the opportunity to see kiwi. Many thnx to all the hard working volunteers! You are awesome!!
Good place for a walk
There is an all-round predator-proof fence on this beautiful sanctuary. We saw saddlebacks, tui and a north island robins. Like other reviewers, I was puzzled motorboats and jet skis are allowed here. Incredibly noisy. It will be affecting the birds, especially the new water fowl.
Why are there jet skies and motor boats allowed?It is a reserve!!!
A stunning place, the lake and Bush is beautiful and the bird life is amazing. Just lovely
