A home away from home. I live 2hours North of Thames and when staying in Thames, Sunkist is my first choice. The rooms in the historic building are newly refurbished and now changed into singles and doubles, fresh paint gives it all a clean and well decorated feel, which is also supported by historic photos, matching furniture and Cheryl's knowledge about the building's and Thames history. The room rate includes a continental breakfast buffet, which allows you a good start into the day. Tea, juice and filter coffee are included. If you would like to go fancier, just prep a full breakfast yourselves in the kitchen. The kitchen has microwaves, a fridge, hobs and comes with all cooking gear needed. There is one huge room with comfy bunk beds. Ideal for travelling groups. The other rooms are single and doubles/twins. WiFi is available with Tomizone. You need to buy a voucher. Cheryl is happy to help, if you need a hand with onwards bookings. The garden along the house has outdoor seating, a deck, BBQ and hammocks to relax. The shopping center (Pak'n'Save, Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery, etc) is a ten minute walk down the road. Cinema, museums and cafes are closer. Thames has a coastal walk for pedestrians and bikes alike, so you can stride out for a good walk from just around the corner. Just start or finish your tour on the Hauraki Rail Trail from here. And there is a lot of history around town. The Intercity stops in front of the door for pickups and drop offs. Happily been back in September 2017, Februar 2018, March 2018.

I am a regular guest and have just enjoyed another 2 nights stay. I thank you for your friendly/welcoming hospitality. Especially look forward to your lovely breakfasts of fresh fruits, cereals, fresh breads, Coffee etc. Always have a great nights sleep. I would recommend.
I have stayed at the Sunkist Guest on two occasions within the last 6 weeks. Frankly I wonder why I went back a second time. It is a mistake I will not make again. The first occasion was in a 4 bed bunk room with possibly the most uncomfortable bed i have ever sleep on. The second occasion I stayed there was this weekend and I ungraded to a single room. The room could only be described a cramped. It had a double bed that almost filled the room. I could only shuffle around the bed. The other furnishings within the room were a lounge chair and a half round corner table. Frankly for the money there are better options in Thames.
This place is quite charming. Our host took care to check us in, and when we realized the room we were given a room that had yet to be cleaned, she was quick to give us a new one. The place is spacious and historically decorated. Continental breakfast is included. Laundry facilities available. My only issues are with the florescent bulbs in the room. When on in the evenings, the lighting makes me feel like I'm in a hospital or supermarket. The internet speed comes and goes too.
They took my money and didn't even stay up to let me in and then didn't answer their phone. I subsequently had to pay for another hotel. The reply I have read is untrue. Upon booking I wrote that we would be travelling from Waiheke Island on the vehicle ferry which would probably get us there at around 10pm. We were later than I expected but we were outside, calling on the phone and knocked on the front door. No effort was made to contact myself or my husband. We were in town for a funeral two days later and I was very happy in the end with a cheaper room at the imperial on the main street.
Friendly service. Clean and comfortable. Large bed.
Facilities here for what you pay is really good value imo. A very nice kitchen and free breakfast in morning, clean bathrooms and lots of recreation areas to sit and relax. It's pretty central and you even get a morning shuttle if you want to tackle Pinnacles (I didn't get it) It was pretty quiet when I stayed so not much atmosphere. You only have VHS tapes (not seen 1 in years and wi-fi is not free) I note with interest in previous reviews people complaining about the manager. Personally I had no issues whatsoever and found her helpful so maybe it depends on day you get her but for what service I received I would certainly suggest staying here.
Dont stay here!!!!!
