Great stop while in Thames and a real learning experience. Would love to go back again without the kids so I can spend more time there. The rock shop has a good variety of polished rocks at cheap prices compared to other shops.

A must visit when you are in Thames, staff have great knowledge of the early mining history of the area and the importance of gold to the early settlers in the area. Interesting shop selling a great variety of rock & semi precious jewellery. Charles Boyle 18/3/2021

Historical School of Mines was established in 1886. They have the original building on site and offer tours of the minerals museum and the original school. You can pan for gold and buy beautiful polished gemstones at the shop. Worth a look if you are interested.
