It is a forty minute drive from the city of Whangarei and thirty minutes from the Whangarei Domestic Airport. The entire fifty acres of Toru Pani looks over Mckenzie Bay, which is neighboured by Taurikura and Urqhart Bay. Named after three natural underground springs on the hillside property, the name also ties together the cultural heritage of the Unka family, Indian and Maori. Toru Pani is the family home of Vera and Shameela Unka. Vera is an educator, in the sector for 30 years, she is also a nature enthusiast and works consistently with her husband to ensure their beautiful hillside property is free of non-native species of pest, so native flora and fauna can flourish. Vera trains regularly in swimming, running and boxfit and competes in events such as the Kerikeri half marathon and the Wild Kiwi at Whangarei Heads. She loves to share what she understands about the natural world and personal well-being. Shameela is also an educator, she currently works in the Primary Sector in Victoria, Australia and is also a registered teacher with the Yoga Alliance. Shameela is passionate about sharing the practice of yoga and meditation as they have influenced her life in such an enriching way.
