Nice place to hang out. Especially if you have kids and want them to have interaction with animals. Part of the experience is really relaxing and really good place for photography. BUT Some of the animals are not in their best health. Some birds are not in a standard enclosure (I am a vet). Sheep needed shearing and they were suffering in hot summer weather. It seems animals deliberately kept hungry so they approach people for food. There were not much grass left on land. Place has serious health & safety issues. No proper signs, unattended sites, dangerous tools left outside and miss behaving animals. Price is 24 per person and the admission will be closed at 5 pm (summer) but you can continue your visit after 5pm until it gets dark. There is no staff member on site after 5 pm and no mobile reception so you will be all by yourself in case you hurt or face a problem. I am not happy with keeping wild animals in captivity but definitely spending your money in a Zoo would be a better option.

Great wildlife n reserve for family with kids... lots of discoveries. Just watch for animals that were not shy n come for a feed in your hands. Food was good with friendly service n nice nature view .

My friend had her wedding at Staglands last night and I just want to say it was a fantastic day! The venue was absolutely spectacular (the Barn) and of course the surrounding wildlife reserve was absolutely beautiful. I also want to specially acknowledge Lisa, who was the duty manager working through the reception. Lisa is worth her weight in gold! She was so friendly and accommodating. She was amazing at keeping to the schedule and requests throughout the evening but even more importantly, all of the extra requests and queries that came throughout the night, she handled them in her stride and with a smile. Thank you so much Lisa for your fantastic attitude and helping make my friends day so seamless and special.

One of our favorite places. A very nice place to take the family to. You get the chance to see a variety of ducks and other birds, and many other animals. Feeding those animals was a lot of fun.

100% recommend !!!! You get to pet a lot of animals ! I was hoping the pigs to be roaming around the grass area, but I was still able to pet them over the fence. It’s a huge reserve and got space to do picnics ! I would recommend giving yourself at least 3 hours to see everything ! They got other attractions like a train tour and apparently weddings too. You can walk along the river and feed trouts at the pond. A lot of birds just walking about so won’t recommend if you’re afraid of birds. Entrance is 24.

This place totally exceeded my expectations! I have been to the cafe numerous times in the past but had never actually gone into the park proper. This place is like a mini zoo, except everything is walking around the park and you can pat any animal that will let you! We took our 4 year old daughter and she had a ball of a day feeding the animals and the massive trout. Definitely worth the cost of entry!

Legit one of the best wildlife reserves in the Wellington region. I'd never been before and thought it was in Upper Hutt but was actually half way around the Akatarawa Road and while it's not the most fun road to drive, it's well worth it. The place has an awesome cafe with reasonably priced food. When you enter the reserve, you can buy animal food to feed the many birds and animals around the reserve. There's a few aviaries of different bird types so that you're guaranteed to spot them. The highlight to me had to be the reindeer and feeding them, they were amazing otherwise there's kunekune pigs, goats, sheep, horses, etc that you can feed as well. Awesome day and way to end the Christmas break.

We had the best day! Was absolutely worth it! Didn't expect to see so much. Great place for kids or even a nice experience for couples. I definitely recommend!
