We just had the most amazing hotpot here - really brilliant place. We also were brave enough to try the BBQ chicken hearts which were surprisingly good. And the prices are great. Highly recommend!

Tucked out of the way of the main bustle of Hood St in Hamilton, the Volcano Grill was a saving grace for a late-night feed a year earlier when other neighbouring restaurants had closed, so I took my companions there again this year when in town for the same event. It definitely is the kind of place you'll have an easier time ordering and understanding the menu if you can read the language. Mandarin in this case. The dishes are brought out as-ready and not at once so sharing and communal style dining is the way to approach. Being unfamiliar with the cuisine we could have used a bit more assistance from the waitress in ordering, but I don't believe either we were their usual clientele so it was understandable. From the reasonably priced menu amongst the three of us we ordered two beef-noodle soups, two spring onion pancakes, a Schizuan style pork ribs and some garlic-fried cabbage & seasonal greens. Hits and misses with the food; the pancakes were quickly devoured with good comments while the noodle soups were found lacking. I could have polished off two plates of the rib dish which came with chips, plenty of fried spicy chili and seasoning, but the greens were a bit watery and bland. Decor was equal parts kitsch and utilitarian; service stations for sauce and cutlery more like being in a canteen, but the restaurant had some vinyl records and memorabilia which made it a little more funky and fun. Finished the meal with a mango pancake; mainly filled with cream and only flecks of mango, it wasn't the sweet moreish dessert I had been hoping for. Overall I think we only scratched the surface of what Volcano had to offer; I would love to go there with someone who would guide me through the different menu items and have an experience that would be incredibly memorable.
Nice ambience. Amazing food. Great service. Personal favorite is the beef fried noodles.
good place
I’ve been to this place plenty of times. It’s a great place with good food and amazing service! Highly recommend if you love spicy food and grilled skewers.
Yum yum yum yummy food and affordable for 4people.
A great hidden spot in town
service and food was excellent! we went for their specialties as explained by the waitress. Basically a few of the BBQ skewers (beef, pork, meatballs) and the fried pork noodles. I'm really picky with my noodles and i have to say they make really delicious fried noodles. Prices were reasonable and i will definitely return with more people! It's a hidden gem! Glad i found it!
