The most Beautifuless Marae at the very top of the South Island Tewaipounamu! Along with the Beautiful Hosts the Ringawera People that are from their Descendants of their Tipuna Ataahua holi!
A wonderful wonderful wonderful place to visit, and/or stay. The host family are truly beautiful and caring people. Their knowledge of Waikawa, and it's history, is second to none. I highly recommend Waikawa Marae for the ultimate experience
If you want to know more about Maori enquire at the Marae office beside Waikawa Rd. This is a centre with great hall which you may visit with permission. Maori handle native timbers, stone and green stone with great skill. Examples of their work can be seen here. Tribal histories are told in carved details. Don't be shy, ask.
