I was at ED for almost 12 hours. I hope the Government can do something about the system in NZ. There is a serious mental health crisis in New Zealand, and many people are in desperate help. It's really disappointing to experience first-hand how much our mental health system in NZ needs to improve significantly, and how much we need more and more compassionate and empathetic people in the health care industry. You can read as many news media on it or hear about how bad mental health is getting, but there needs to be direct action taken. There was a nurse that gave me false hope, as twice she said that I was next on the list to be received help, and about 5 hours later I was still waiting. There were two nurses that were very kind, and they gave me food to eat and apologised for the wait. I appreciate the two nurses that were honest about timing and that they can't predict at all when I'd receive help. I understand it's not their fault and that it's hugely understaffed and they are overworked. When it was my turn, I really appreciated the help I received from the two people, for their patience, understanding and kindness. It was hugely helpful However, it's not acceptable that our system is unable to provide help when it's really needed. The Government needs to step up.

Receptionists and all staff were friendly and helpful ! That’s why I gave one star. However after we entered the emergency room we had a long wait. Even though my husband was in pain all the time, we cannot do anything but wait..and wait. I really don’t think long wait is reasonable for the ‘emergency’ room.

Amazing staff team. Everyone was so patient with me having to translate instructions and questions to my grandma. We were seen very quickly because it could have been very serious. The staff were so helpful with questions, and letting us know what was happening. We spent about 5 hours waiting for results from many different tests, but everyone was very kind. From the volunteer coming around asking if my grandma had had lunch and if she wanted food, to the multiple nurses drawing blood, checking blood pressure etc. Thank you Wellington hospital team!

Was here Saturday evening 5pm .. Yes, there is a long wait.. but the staff are efficient and friendly.. receptionists were lovely, and I saw them deal with abuse from some patients which they dealt with in a respectful and caring way. They even gave a patient a cup of tea after he abused them! All the nurses are attentive and kind and very respectful as they are clearly rushed right off their feet going from patient to patient. I was constantly given pain relief, if it wasn't working I was given something different. Doctor Townsley was kind and gentle and was able to diagnose me correctly with a condition that presented as very difficult to diagnose, I am very grateful to her for that as it means I will recover far more quickly. I can't fault the service I was given here.

Waited 4.5 hours then took their needle out of my arm myself in the bathroom so I could leave. I ask for assistance but gave up waiting after 45mins

Came 7pm and still waiting until 2am in the morning. Going up to the reception to ask? How long? Don't know?

Great little place. Warm and dry-Good place to set up your home as alll you need to do is ask to see a doctor. You will be kept waiting for years (they are very busy and it’s not their fault) but it is fortuitous as this place meets basic human needs for shelter. If your homeless or just need free acccomidation for a night, visit Wellington’s accident and emergency. Say hello to the duck on the counter, who will quack with delight should you feed her some bread.
