I can't say much for the physiatrists, they never there nor will I comment on the hospitals ability to communicate with family, come on guys, gee it's not hard to ring! However the nurses are the most amazing nurses I've meet in my life, I myself have gone through severe depression and I wish I had these guys around. They really do the real hard work at Hillmorton north wing inward patients. They are very well trained in mental health and know more than the doctors as they the ones spending time with the patients. Well done guys keep up the good work, I'm glad my friend has your help.

My experience with those at hillmorton hospital is due to the requirements of my income. Sure, I’m surely not a lab mouse but I did shoot one on my stay there. The communication (between health team and patient is a bit lax though.

This hospital be you visiting or staying there is absolutely diabolical. You have an episode just driving into the disgusting prison like grounds and building Shame on you Christchurch for not prioritising. There are far too many so called professionals walking around looking for rooms that have been taken by some other person. It is chaotic and a real mess to say the least. When will public hospitals get their act together. Maybe NEVER!!!!!!

I was locked in there for 9 years for a crime I didnt do and when after 4 months I showed no signs of mental illness. I saw many horrible things happen over that time

Clean beds, nice service, staff were friendly and quick to bring me breakfast in bed. 5 stars on yelp

Complete shambles of an operation. Staff who lack empathy and professionalism. No protocols in place for risk management other than trying to blame the patient themselves or passing the buck onto someone else. Terrible communication with family members. Thanks to this hospital my brother, who is an inpatient, is now a missing person. But apparently that's not the hospitals concern, so the "lovely" charge nurse told me.

How any human allows someone to be not urgent the day of medical release after an OD (held only for family saying he's not safe)...then believe him a week later they're okay to be out and staying with family (no confirmation) absolutely ridiculous !! Listen to family!! Some great nurses ... overall a failure of the mental health system NZ needs to help those most vulnerable.

I felt nothing but support when admitted into this hospital. Originally coming in under the Mental Health Act the staff worked tirelessly to help me get to a place where we would all be comfortable with me being taken off the Act and be a voluntary patient. I believe I have very specific views on life and my 'illness' and for the most part they were understood and respected (with the change over in nurses, not all of them understand who you are from a few notes alone) The staff were considerate, on my first night on the ward my partner was allowed to stay in my room with me - which goes a very long way. Also, there are quite a few characters in hospital but I was constantly being asked whether i felt safe, and comfortable.. Even as an outpatient I'm still receiving the help I need. I think the nurses of this establishment need to be praised more for their hard work and general kind nature toward the patients and staff alike.
