Took my mum's 65 y/o clock in because I thought it had a broken spring. Grant pulled it apart while I waited and discovered the problem. An easy fix but he did do a thorough inspection while he had the mechanism out He has a good set up and knows his stuff when it comes to mechanical clocks. Thanks Grant. I'll be back next time I have a problem or it needs a restoration/refurbishment.

This is a review of when Grant was working in Hillcrest Hamilton. We took a number of clocks to him to repair and this was all pre 2010-2011(?) which I think is when he moved down to Christchurch. All of the clocks we took in for him to repair still work today after their overhauls. What is important is that he comprehensively tells you what is wrong with the clock and what he did to fix it. The next important thing is that he does it in very realistic time and you are not left waiting for months. I had recently a clock repair person not in Hamilton who was hopeless at being punctual and never told you much about what went on with it but stull charged the earth. The result is that person's repair jobs did not last at all. Grant's repair jobs were professionally done and he told you every detail of what was going on including the tricks he performed to get stuff to work. He is very passionate about his profession and we were sorry to lose him. I am afraid we haven't had that level of service since he left. So do see him for repairs. It does cost a bit because it is a labour intensive job. The costs were reasonable from my point of view.

Took a 50 year old clock that was not going too well. Advise us that to do a full overhaul would be 500 plus. But he decided to look at it anyway. Found out that I had not been winding it fully for all that time. Spent plenty of time talking out how it should be wound etc and set it to strike property and how to correctly set it up at home. It never was a 30 day clock before and now runs better and sounds better than it ever done.Great to deal with a person who is passionate about clocks. Cost about a couple of coffees.Dont go anywhere else!!

i went to him with a wall clock..he said would be around 300 max to renovate ...charged around 400 when i went to pic it up..this was with no phone call to advise the repair would be more than quoted 6 months later it stopped again .this is after a total overhaul.i rang him and he was unwilling to refund .i then took it to Bob Cockburn, sinse retired who repaired it for 40 and said the issue had not been adressed by the last service.it is now arnd 2 years sinse and the clock has now broken down again ..this time needing the propper overhaul that it seems unlikly to have had but which G Hay said it had recieved.
