I would definitely only recommend the Te Henga walkway for those with a moderate to advanced level of fitness. This track is not suitable for prams. The track starts out with a series of stairs, which are quite steep in places and will be muddy after rain. You descend the stairs when starting out, which means an intense climb on the return leg. The track continues on through farmland and up a bit of a 'scramble' where the real coastal walk begins. The track itself is quite rugged and not maintained. During winter it is common for parts of the track to wash out and you need to carefully climb across parts. Sunblock is absolutely recommended as the coastal track is not in the shade. For your efforts, you are rewarded with beautiful West Coast views and a decent cardio workout.

Another great walk out West. I've done this a few times and it never gets boring. The views aren't too bad either.

A carpark with plenty of spaces for cars but no shade. There are some views from the carpark. There is also a long set of stairs at this end which was really tiring walking up, especially after a 4 hour hike.

Hard work doing there and back for this old fella. But lots of, great views and love listening to the ocean.

Its a really steep stairway decent just after leaving the car park area. The coastal walk is undulating and the track is in poor condition but the coastal views make up for it. Probably a bit to demanding for my dodgy knee however there were lots of people enjoying the holiday weekend

this place does have a hiden waterfall after 20-25mins walk in the bush, but nothing else, But not worth the trip if you leave in central/ east/north Auckland

Great place for a hike. I walked a return trip of 21 kms in 6.5hrs so not too bad. Great view and theres even a cafe at the beach below. However the one and only thing I wish they had more of is toilets or outhouses on the trail. The only toilet is at the Bethels beach car park about 500 meters from the start of the track and for the next 21 kms nothing. But that's hiking though so just be prepared.

Was looking for a good workout, and boy, i got one! Gorgeous views and very quiet. Walked all the way to O'Neil Beach and back, just under 6 hours. Bring lots of water, more than you think you will need! Pathway very overgrown, so keep an eye out for prickly plants, hidden holes, and some mushy mud. I did it in my tennis shoes, but my feet are definitely yelling at me for not wearing the hiking boots.
