The Port Levy saddle here is the easiest starting point from which to walk to Mt Herbert. You can leave your car in the car park here, and walk north-west along a well formed and fairly easy 2.5 hour ridge-top walk through tussocks and farmland to Mt Herbert (900m high). There are great views all along the way, but it is very exposed to the weather (cold winds, rain, sun, low damp cloud).
