Nice trains to see, special when you are driving on the HWY 1
Lovely wee station kept neat and tidy, though it is a shame the ticket office is only open weekday mornings and most of the seats for waiting somewhere under cover from weather are inside the ticket office. These Metlink stations should have more seating in general I reckon.
They really need a place out of the way from wind and rain for people to take cover. The ticket office should also have longer opening hours. Though a good quick train to Wellington is running every twenty minutes, so that's good.
Good for sitting and waiting for the train
Semi decent parking available, well lit
Honorary caretaker a great idea and practical in a village like Waikanae. Not certain if the health and safety folk would approve but to make rail great again some innovative partnership thinking might be worth exploring. Also don't forget the park-and-ride carpark on the corner of Te Moana and the Main Rd. Spark have their free-to-use Sparkplug EV connection there if your non-ICE needs some amps.
A nice station, but toilets are closed when the ticket agent isn't there. They need to organise an honorary caretaker to keep the interior unlocked for longer.
