Wakanui, New Zealand
251 Wakanui Beach Road
N/A
An easy 20 min drive from Ashburton through farmland on straight well sealed roads. A camping/ backpackers is located by the entrance of the unsealed car park. A beach as far as the eye can see. Some sandy areas but mostly covered in flat stones in all shapes and sizes. Sea birds and the occasional visit from a seal. There are strong currents in this area and swimming is not recommended.

Not a swimming beach as it is very dangerous. Good for fishing
Beautiful sunrises. Rocky seascape. Fabulous spot.
Kia ora, lovely sunny spot to park up. Two freedom campers in the carpark and fisherman along the beach. A couple of photographers too. Nice and quiet, the drive down was a bit windy but didn't notice the wind when we parked up.
Was there when it was not very hood weather and it rained a bit. Still really nice to walk around and get some fresh air. Even with this type of weather it's still nice to make some pictures. A lot of rocks so good footwear is recommended. There is also a public toilet. There us a sign with some rules and fun facts. No swimming aloud and clean up after your pets if you bring them with you. Also take care of your own trash (but that is not more than normal). Fun facts: the Maori used this beach for meal preparations and it was one of the top 5 beaches that were used by the Maori. Rocks from the North island can be found on this beach.
totally lonely beach. I enjoyed the silence here
Great for fishing but no swimming allowed too many rips
Check out the view. Sunrise is amazing
