Lovely hut after walking from Tutuwai.
Nice clean 20 bed hut with a helicopter landing area near by. Approx 5 hours from Holdsworth carpark. Plenty of fire wood, large food prep area and tables. Bit disappointed in the behaviour of a group of 5 young locals who decided to fill up the fireplace with plastic rubbish - please don't do dumb things like this while you're there, keep it nice for everyone! 2 long drop toilets were not nearly enough for the 30 people when I was there, including campers using the facilities - they were in pretty bad shape at the start of the weekend. Carry toilet paper and all cooking supplies.
So I'm not the fittest. We did the trip in 3 hours 20 min from waione road. You basically follow the gully up. Starts with a decent swing bridge that I would not take in high wind. It moves quite a bit and I got sweatier pans that when I went sky diving. Safe as house though. From there you wind up the valley crossing a from ridge lines. These ascents can be over 45 but never more than 20 or ,30m of total ascent. This goes on for 4 swing bridges and about 5 or 6 climbs. Eventually you come to a lookout up a big valley with lots of great. I don't think you can see it but over to the right across the river about half way up the valley will be Sayers hut. It's not marked but there is a small cairn across the river as your walking along. Continue through up the valley in the grass and the bush will eventyally come and you only a hundred or so meters away. Congratulations you've made it. Reward yourself with a wash in the river and a hot cup of scroggin.
Easy enough to get to. Being serviced there were some pots and pans to use and plenty of firewood.
Large hut with good facilities. 3-4 hours easyish walk from the road end
Good hut. Located beside a river. Two bunk rooms, fireplace, water tap and sink inside
Plenty of space for sleeping, lots of bench space for cooking. Good sized covered deck
