Great day hike 3 hrs for shorter version and nearly four for longer one. Takes you over the Hunua Ranges to the Wairoa Dam with some stunning views and lovely native tree. We took lunch and plenty of water. There are a lot of stairs up and down so you need to be mobile. It is not hard and if you are not so fit do the shorter loop. Watch at the dam as the signs have been removed - take the track which says Lookout 3 minutes - you are then on your way for another 45 minutes with more stairs. Wash your boots as DOC are working hard to keep the Kauri die back under control

Another great couple of tracks through the Hunua Ranges. Beautiful scenery, nothing too taxing, very well maintained tracks, and some awesome lookout points.

Nice and quiet track located just south of Hunua fall. You'll climb approximately 230m to get to the top, the view up there is spectacular. A good footwear is a must as part of the track is damaged and could get slippery when going down the hill.

Loved this walk. Really easy and not too much incline. Family friendly. Amazing views.

Great 7km loop track on fully formed path in beautiful forest. A great trail to run as its very quiet, close enough to the city, easy to access, and has varied terrain. We parked in carpark which is down a small driveway to the left just as you enter Otau Road. From here follow the gravel Otau Road towards Wairoa dam. This clockwise direction first section is nice and flat and a good warm up for the 250m climb at the beginning of the Wairoa Loop Track. Make sure you take the detour to the lookout of the Wairoa reservoir. From the top you'll follow an access road (Repeater Road) for about a km before plunging back down into the forest. These last 2km are great, as you follow a beautiful stream back to the car park. If you're keen, add the Suspension Bridge Track for an extra couple of km to your walk/run.

We found a few beautiful views to the dumb and the area from the hill and all the rest of the time we went through the deap forest and saw trees from the left and trees from the right during all the time. Personally, I don't like such trips.

Less than a two hour walk on a well maintained track. First half climbs around 270 meters. Under cover most of the way.
